About Us

The Learning Center at Gillam-Grant is a not for profit organization that provides:

• after school and summer tutoring with certified teachers
• homework help with SUNY Brockport teacher candidates
• enrichment classes and summer camps with qualified instructors

 to K-12th grade students in Genesee and Monroe counties. 

 Mission

We strive to provide quality, affordable educational services to help students in our community reach their highest academic potential.

Philosophy

We believe the goals of tutoring are:

• to promote independence in learning
• to personalize instruction
• to facilitate the student's insights into learning and the learning process
• to promote school success
• to improve study skills
• to increase student's self-confidence

Coordinator

Our coordinator, Tracey Phelps, is a Certified NYS teacher with 10 years classroom teaching experience.  She is a member of the National Tutoring Association.

Tutors

Our tutors are certified NYS teachers, retired teachers, college students and math and science professionals.  All tutors are screened and interviewed. They are required to participate in tutor training. Tutors only work in their area of expertise.

Location

The Learning Center at Gillam Grant is just a short drive from most Genesee county communities and western Monroe county municiplaities.  It is located in the Gillam Grant Community Center, 6966 West Bergen Rd. Bergen, which is conveniently located across from the Byron-Bergen High School. We have 6 tutoring stations with computers and internet access. 

Hours of Operation

We are open after-school and evenings Monday through Friday by appointment during the school year when school is in session.  The Learning Center is open 9:00am to 8:00pm daily Monday through Friday during July and August.
